Help Wanted: Skilled Laborer Shortage = Great Opportunity

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics there are approximately 380,000 unfilled jobs in the construction industry. For many the shortage presents a challenge – but it is also a great opportunity for young people searching for successful careers.

The trades are an awesome choice for individuals looking for a secure and profitable career. According to a survey conducted by ManpowerGroup, trade positions are currently the hardest to fill in the United States and around the world. Specifically, the top ten positions with the largest shortages include:

  • Carpenters
  • Framers
  • Bricklayers/masons
  • Concrete workers
  • Drywallers
  • Roofers
  • Electricians
  • Plumbers
  • Painters
  • Excavators

Kansas City NARI is committed to enhancing and promoting careers in the skilled trades and remodeling industry. One of the ways we support this effort is through the Kansas City NARI Futures Fund. The Futures Fund focuses on fundraising and giving efforts toward attracting individuals to careers in the industry and improving training, educational and job opportunities that are available from remodeling contractors, subcontractors, and related supplier companies.

Since the fall of 2016, over $120,000 has been donated to Kansas City NARI Futures Fund and over $78,000 has been given to area school districts construction trades programs and non-profit organizations with a construction related focus.
